Mr. President, the phone is ringing
For the last few days, Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin has been trying to get a hold of President Bush.
"Hello, could I speak to Mr. Bush please".
"I am sorry but the President just stepped out for a moment."
"Could you tell him I called please."
"Yes I will Mr Prime Minister."
"Doesn't Mr. Martin know that my intentions are to protect the Canadian people from the threat of nuclear attack?"
"You should stand up to your word and take the calls from him Mr. President. That is the third time he called."
Bush folds his arms and pouts "I don't want to talk to him right now".
The reason Mr. Bush is not returning the calls is because he is pissed at our Prime Minister for exercising our sovereign right to refuse to take part in the Missile Defense Program. Why would we? There hasn't been a successful test and on the foreign policy aspect of the matter, why would we feel safer when the President feels the need to surround the continent with anti ballistic missiles?
This scenario reminds me of playground politics where President Bush is the kid who took his baseball bat home because the kids didn't want to play to his rules. Perhaps Mr Bush could take a recess and think about his actions. The playground belongs to the whole school.
