Echoes of Inherit the wind
Inherit the Wind was part of my english curriculum in high school. I have never bought creationism as I am a person of science. The book of Genesis seemed to be a fanciful account of a society that made attempts at trying to answer the question of our origin. I pictured in my mind a group of people in biblical times sitting around a campfire asking the elders where we came from. To me their explanation of our origin reads like the book of Genesis. I remember challenging my sunday school teacher on this subject and her not being able to adequately address my intellectual concerns.

The story of the Scopes Monkey Trial really struck a chord with me. The trial was about a teacher arrested for teaching Darwinism in 1925, a time when it was illegal to teach it in Tennessee. When I watched the movie, I thought the portrayal of Henry Drummond by Spencer Tracy was phenomenal to watch. He really captured the passionate personal struggle between his faith and science. While the movie was loosely based on the actual trial, I highly recommend watching it.

The reason I am bringing this up is because there is a school board in Wisconsin that is mandating that its biology teachers include creationism into their curriculum. I wonder what kind of message that they are trying to send to the kids?
